Using scrap boards from his rented Seattle wood shop, Dave Knott built an assortment of small resonant instruments that subsequently became the vehicle for these playful exercises in timbre. He mounted tuning pegs to the boards, which ranged in length from 1 to 8 feet, and strung them with variously gauged wires and strings, some from guitars and cellos, others raw wire and even a few piano strings. The instruments infiltrated his home even taking up residence in the restroom. The results mimic frantic thumbed mbiras, booming gongs, or several harps falling down the stairs. Far more Harry Partch than Ellen Fullman.
Give it a listen.
